The Housing Choice Voucher Program was created as a voluntary program to move low income renters out of housing projects and into suburban communities. I support a temporary safety net for families who fall on hard times, but not long term programs that subsidize a middle class lifestyle.
The Home Act of 2017 (HB0172) would have forced landlords to accept Section 8 voucher tenants, spreading more poverty into our already fragile community. This bill was supported by our current Delegate Eric Bromwell when it passed the House of Delegates, and fortunately it was rejected by the State Senate. As your Delegate, I will not support any bill that forces landlords to accept voucher tenants or that forces new low income housing in our community.
